Biography

Abigail Skinner was born in Colchester, New London, Connecticut on July 9, 1715, the daughter of Ebenezer Skinner and Sarah (Lord) Skinner of New London, Connecticut.[1] In Colchester on March 14, 1734, she married Isaac Bigelow[2], the son of Isaac Bigelow and Mary Bond of Colchester, and they had children[3], including:

  1. Abigail, who was born 01 Jan 1735; and died 01 Sep 1803 in Colchester. On 24 Mar 1755 she married Daniel Pratt, a resident of Colchester, CT.
  2. Ann, who was born 07 Mar 1736; and may have died in Nova Scotia. On 31 Jan 1760 (Colchester) she married Judah Wells; a resident of Cornwallis, Nova Scotia.
  3. Isaac, who was born 17 Nov 1737; and d after 1800, probably Franklin county, VT. On 5 Apr 1759 (Colchester) he married Mary Chamberlain; and lived in Cornwallis, N.S, Dummerston, VT and Franklin county, VT.
  4. Timothy, who was born 18 Nov 1739; and d 12 Sep 1818 in Tyringham, Berkshire, MA at the Shaker colony.[4]. On 2 Dec 1762 (Colchester) he married Rhoda Williams; and they lived in Bernardston & Williamston, MA, possibly Rl, then at Tyringham. Timothy was a blacksmith by trade, and served in the Revolutionary War.
  5. Amasa, who was born 23 Dec 1741; and died 18 Jan 1742.
  6. Mary, who was born 02 Feb 1743; and died 25 Oct 1773 in East Haddam, CT. On 09 Sep 1761 (Colchester) she married Reuben Beebe, a resident of East Haddam.
  7. Lydia, who was born 02 May 1745; and died either in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. On 30 Jan 1772 (Cornwallis) she married Ezra Pride.
  8. Margaret, who was born August 2, 1747; and died 29 Jan 1842 in Machias, Maine. On 10 Oct 1765 (Cornwallis) she married Nathan Longfellow; they lived in Cornwallis a number of years, then moved to Maine during the Revolutionary War.
  9. Jerusha, who was born 08 Mar 1749. On 4 Dec 1766 (Cornwallis) she married Andrew Newcomb. They lived in Cornwallis and later moved to New Brunswick.
  10. Ruby ("Zubah" on baptismal and burial records), was born 14 Dec 1750; and died 05 June 1759.
  11. Samuel, who was born 01 Nov 1752; and 6 Mar 1830 in Nantucket, Massachusetts. On 09 June 1799 (Nantucket) he married Mrs. Naomi Gardner.
  12. Amasa who was born 11 Feb 1755; and died before 1806 in Cornwallis, N.S.; On 09 Nov 1773 (Cornwallis) he married Rosina Cone, they lived in Cornwallis NS.
  13. Addi, who was born 18 Oct 1757 and died before 1817 in Franklin County, OH; On 21 Oct 1779 he married Mary Nooney at Enfield, CT; second, on 29 July 1804 he married Zelinda Ingalls (Barre, VT); they lived in Barre, VT and moved to Franklin County, OH circa 1813.

Abigail, Isaac, and several of their children moved to Cornwallis Township, Kings, Nova Scotia in 1760-61 as part of the New England Planter migration.[5][6] Isaac and Abigail appear to have returned to New England at the outbreak of the American Revolution,[7] and he appears in the 1790 census as a resident of Dummerston, Windham, Vermont.[8] Abigail Skinner Bigelow died circa 1792.[9]
