William Slade's parents moved to Alstead, New Hampshire, in 1773, but William probably remained in Connecticut. for he enlisted from Windsor, Connecticut. in the Revolutionary Army in March or April 1776 , for nine months as a private in Captain Hammond's company. He enlisted again in December 1776 or early 1777 as a teamster in Captain David Allen's company, serving until December 1779.[4]
William Slade married Anna Root, probably in Connecticut shortly before they moved to Alstead, New Hampshire. They had moved to Alstead by 21 May 1780, when their first known child was born here.[5] His father deeded him property at Alstead in 1781.[4]
