Biography

Sean Sloane ...[1]

I was born and grew up in an inland suburb (read boring) of San Diego, California; it is called La Mesa and the neighbouring area is El Cajon ;). I taught myself to play the piano and read music at a young age. I played piano almost every day until I left my mother's house, I also sang; and for a while played violin.

I left La Mesa with the very first opportunity that presented itself and moved to Los Angeles; ca. 1985 which was high time for goth clubs, which I enjoyed thoroughly. I then moved to San Francisco; two weeks before the big quake of 1989. Luckily, I was staying with friends on high ground. Whilst there, I learnt massage (shiatsu and swedish). It was whilst studying shiatsu that I realised I had a natural feeling for yin/yang and the five elements. I wanted to study traditional Chinese medicine, so set out to learn Mandarin with traditional characters. This pursuit took me to Santa Cruz, California; Eugene, Oregon; and London (SOAS). I wasn't rich enough to carry on my studies in London so had to drop the course. I also realised that to study TCM, one really needed to go to either Vietnam or Korea as the Cultural Revolution purged anyone out of China who had these skills. Also, to become certified in the USA (or at least in California) one had to convert all these concepts into science (which has nothing to do with TCM). So, I gave it up and fell back on my computer knowledge which also came naturally. I ended up being an IT Manager in advertising agencies; specialised in print workflow. I am now retired due to health issues which is why I have so much time for genealogy, which I am passionate about. I currently reside in Eutin, Ostholstein, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

Digital Afterlife

16. September 2017

In the event of my untimely demise I want to be sure that none of my hard work on WikiTree ends up having to be deleted. While I fully intend to be around to manage all my profiles for the next 50 years or so, in the event of my sudden death I hereby give permission for all of my private profiles to be transferred to any of my family members or to any of the other wonderful WikiTreers who have collaborated with me. My own personal profile will be left to Mags to tend and weed and... (I plan to haunt the WikiTree servers once my body has left it's earthly bonds).

Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma

I wanted to tell my journey through this thing. I started having digestive system issues and was almost not able to rest anything without severe gurgling in my belly. I then developed a respiratory infection that didn't go away. In November 2016, my GP put me in hospital for what he thought could be pneumonia. They x-rayed my lungs and didn't find anything so they did a thoracic and abdominal ultrasound which found a large mass, close to the spleen and left kidney. They then did a CT scan and said it was a tumour which they would not be able to biopsy beforehand as it had an excellent blood supply and would be too dangerous. I think they operated on the 5th December 2016, and a week later we had the histology reports saying it was a 16x10cm Pleomorphic Sarcoma tumour. They also removed part of the left diaphragm muscle. 3 months later, the first control they discovered my left lung was full of liquid and had to drain it. But there were no signs of tumour regrowth. At 6 months, they found regrowth throughout the original tumour area. Which they recommended a 2nd operation. So, on 24th November 2017, they cut my belly open again, this time they removed the spleen, left kidney and adrenal gland, partial pancreatic resection including duodenum and more diaphragm muscle, all kinds of tissues from the left flank and back and intestine resection. The new tumour was over 20cm long. They then recommended a full 30 sessions of radiation therapy. As they weren't able to get to the part of the on my 12th rib that has also grown into the thoracic wall. After the first week, they started talking about chemotherapy to help the radiation. After about a week of bad side-effects, the doctors came to me yesterday to tell me there's no more they can do. They'll send me to palliative care ward care. As there are no home care services available in my area, they recommended go directly to a hospice. After a lengthy wait list period I finally got a bed at the Kieler Förde Hospiz.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Seán or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
  • Seán (Sloane) Sloane Johnson: Family Tree DNA Y-DNA Test 111 markers, haplogroup R1b-S425, FTDNA kit #270674, MitoYDNA ID T12886 [compare] + Y-Chromosome Test, haplogroup R1b-S425
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
  • Seán (Sloane) Sloane Johnson: Mitochondrial DNA Test Full Sequence, haplogroup T2b11, Ancestry member urbanomad64
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Seán:

Hey! I don't seem to share a DNA connection with you but I keep connecting to profiles managed by you! According to WikiTree we are 7th cousins. I currently live in San Diego (Spring Valley) so your comment re. La Mesa/El Cajon made me laugh. ;)
Thank you for adding me to Mary Johnson's trusted list.

Hi again

I saw your change Olofsdotter-1379 of surname I have a feeling that surnames in Sweden 1800 was not so fixed. I have heard about Swedish people coming to school 1910 and the teacher asked what is your surname and the child didnt know so then the teacher called her Olofsdotter because father was Olof....

My feeling is that its a moving target and if you find a document signed by a person then use that ..... I guess we will never know ;-(
