Biography

Henry Smith was Clerk of Suffolk County from 1710 to 1716 and was for many years one of the county judges. As the eldest surviving son, he succeeded to the title "Lord of the Manor of St. George" upon the death of his father.[1] He inherited the northern part of the Manor of St. George and was the 2nd Lord of the Manor.

Godmother was ... the wiffe of Phineas Bowles ... by Doctor Amis Crymes in the Protestant Church."[1]

The will of Col. Henry Smith, Gent., of St George's Manor, Setauket, NY dated 17 Sep 1764, proved 28 March 1757 Smith mentions sons William, Gilbert and daughters Francis Smith, Mary Smith and Martha Lyons. He noted that ample provision had been made to son William 12 Jan 1748. Exes Col. Richard Floyd, Capt. Eleazer Hawkins, Capt. Benjah Strong Strong-287, Wits Rev. Benjamin Tallmage, Nathan Woodhull, Joseph Brewster, Benjamin Floyd.[2]
