Biography

Henry Smythe was a son of Robert Smythe, esq. of Sutton-at Hone, Kent and Catherine, daughter of William Stafford, of Blatherwick, Northamptonshire.[1][2][3]

He was born about 1677.[2]

He married Elizabeth Lloyd, daughter of Dr John Lloyd, Canon of Windsor.[1][2]

Henry Smith Esq. of St Margaret's Westminster married Elizabeth Lloyd of the same on 20 Jan 1699/1700 at St Luke, Chelsea, Middlesex.[4]

Child:

Regarding Bidborough, Kent:[7] "Robert Smythe, esq. removed to Sutton, and died in 1695, possessed of this manor and seat, leaving Katherine his wife surviving, and two sons, Henry and William, to whom this manor and seat of Bounds descended as heirs in gavelkind." "On the death of William Smythe, the second son above-mentioned unmarried, Henry Smythe, esq. [his brother] possessed the whole fee of this manor and seat, and resided at Bounds."

He died on 05 Dec 1706 age 29.[2]

In his will made on 02 Nov 1706 and proved 07 May 1707[8] he was recorded as Henry Smithe of Great Bounds in the County of Kent Esq. He left his estates to his wife Elizabeth, until his son, Sidney Stafford Smythe, should reach the age of 21. Should his son die then the estates would revert to Henry's brother William Smythe. The will also referred to the estate of Henry's mother which at the time was held in trust with the Earl of Rochester. The will was signed Henry Smythe and probate was granted to the Executrix, his wife Elizabeth.

His wife married second William Hunt Esq; she died in 1754 and is buried at Seale, Kent.[9]
