Biography

Ralph STAFFORD was the eldest son and heir to Sir Hugh de Stafford and Philippe de Beauchamp. He was a grandson of Sir Ralph de Stafford and Margaret de Audley; and on his mother's side, of Sir Thomas de Beauchamp and Katherine de Mortimer.

Ralph Stafford was a knight of the Royal household. He was killed during an argument when with King Richard ll's army in the Scottish campaign of 1385. [1]

One of the king's household knights, he accompanied the royal army on the 1385 invasion of Scotland. In July, he was murdered between York and Bishopsthorpe by Richard II's half-brother, John Holland Holand-90. [2]

Ralph Stafford never married, and died childless. The earldom passed to his younger brother, Thomas, when Ralph's father Hugh Stafford died in Rhodes a year later in 1586. ] Ralph Stafford was interred in King's Langley Priory, Hertfordshire. [3]
