Relationships between historical figures could have been simplified or even fabricated in the text to give the impression that succession remained within the same family….Precise chronology is also difficult to assess from the Sagas….The conclusion must be that the tight family network described in the Sagas is unlikely to be correct and that the relationships shown below should be treated with considerable caution.

Inge Stenkilsson, also called Inge the elder, ruled in Sweden at the latest in 1080 until 1084 and again about 1088-1110.
According to Hervararsagan he co-ruled together with his brother Halsten.
Inge Stenkilsson, Inge the elder/Inge den äldre
Alternate spellings; Ingi Steinkelsson
He was the son of Stenkil and his mother was possibly a daughter of King Emund the Elder. He had a brother named Halsten.
The name of his wife is known to been Helena and they had the children;
Morkinskinna saga records that “Haraldr Valdimarsson” married “Kristin, the daughter of Ingi Steinkelsson king of the Swedes”. Apparently, parentage and marriage are confirmed by a charter dated 1194/95, reciting the consanguinity between Philippe II King of France and his second wife Ingebjörg of Denmark on which their divorce was based,
FMG mentions that Helena might have originated from Russia where her husband allegedly lived before 1080.
Exact death date is not known. Swedish Wikipedia suggests death year 1110, MedLands 1111, while Swedish Biographical Lexicon suggests that he died "at the earliest abt. 1100".
Through history some have said that he and his wife Helena are buried in Vreta monastery, while other information indicates that he is buried in Varnhem's church. There is a memorial tombstone over Inge in Varnhem's church but that was not added until the 17th century on the initiative of M G De la Gardie.
Recent archeological research suggests that it is quite possible that he is actually buried Vreta monastery church, in a crypt dated to early 1100. Two tall males had been buried there (abt 2 meters tall) which agrees with other sources that tell that people from Stenkilsätten were tall.
