Disputed Origins

According to Anderson's Great Migration..., Robert Stevens' origins are unknown. No reliable sources have been found to show that he is the son of John Stevens (1589-1676) and Ann (Powell) Stevens (abt.1591-1676). They have been detached pending reliable sources being added in support of their relationship.

Biography

Robert Stevens was born about 1613, probably in England; the specific place of origin is unknown.

He migrated in 1635 on the Planter at the age of 22 years; enrolling as a passenger at London with his occupation noted as "a sawyer." He first lived at Boston, Massachusetts.

By 1639 Robert married Mary (_____), whose surname is unknown. The couple moved to Braintree, Massachusetts by 1640.

Children of Robert and Mary:
  1. unnamed child was born by February 24, 1639/40 (Robert required land for three people on that date.) no additional records for this child.
  2. Sarah was born at Braintree on May 31, 1641. She married John Cleverly at Braintree on March 18, 1664/5.

Robert Stevens died between the time he wrote his will on July 1, 1682 and the time of the inventory of his estate on December of 1682. The inventory totaled L97 10s., 6d. of which L71 was real estate. His wife Mary was the executrix of his estate and everything was willed to her during her natural life. Following his wife's death the his daughter Sarah Cleaverly received the inheritance; with her husband as the overseer. He also willed 5 shillings to his daughter Mary Hatch, which could possibly be a step-daughter - a daughter of his wife's 1st marriage.

His widow, Mary, died at Braintree on January 22, 1691/2.
