Research Notes
Some sources claim a 'James Stewart, Lord Galloway' m. Catherine Hoghton, 3rd dau. of Sir Richard Hoghton, 1st Bt., of Hoghton Tower, co. Lancaster, by his wife Catherine Gerard, dau. of Sir Gilbert Gerard, but the evidence for his first marriage to Catherine Hoghton is slim and is not cited in Douglas or in the Complete peerage. He's the only James Stewart alive at the time connected to the Stewart family who were styled 'Lord Galloway'.
