Research Notes

According to DAR records, a Shadrach Stillwell (DAR Ancestor number A133165) was the father of Pvt. Jeremiah Stillwell (DAR Ancestor number A110073), both of Pennsylvania, Colonial America. However, the birth date of the Shadrach Stillwell (Stilwell-417), 1760, if true, precludes him from being the same Shadrach Stillwell, A133165, as the one who rendered service in the revolution.

Regarding Pvt. Jeremiah Stillwell, (A110073), his patriotic service took place in Pennsylvania. He was born about 1750 in Pennsylvania, and he died after 1780 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The source of this information is listed as "PA ARCH, 5TH SER, VOL 7, PP 79, 90." Pvt. Jeremiah Stillwell's service description is as follow. He served under Capt. Samuel and Col. George Stewart in the first battalion of the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Militia.

N.B. JEREMIAH STILLWELL, WHO MARRIED ELIZABETH HULL IS NOT THE SON OF THIS patriot Pvt. Jeremiah Stillwell. However Pvt. Jeremiah Stillwell, is the son of SHADRACH STILLWELL DAR ancestor number #A133465. County: LANCASTER CO - State: Pennsylvania.

Therefore, unless the birth date of the Shadrach Stilwell, (Stilwell-417) is proven to be wrong, the above data discovered on the DAR web site preclude a merge between the DAR Shadrach Sillwell (A133165) and the subject of this profile. It also precludes assigning Pvt. Jeremiah Stillwell, (A110073) as a son of the Shadrach Stillwell (Stilwell-417).

However, none of the above data or discussion precludes the marriage of Shadrach Stilwell, (Stilwell-417) to the ELIZABETH HULL, cited in the DAR record. More research is needed to determine the identity of the wife of Shadrach Stilwell, (Stilwell-417), assuming that he was married.
