Ada May was born in Spring Hill, Mansfield, Connecticut.
As she got older she had long, brown curls which her mother brushed in each morning with a wet brush. In winter her hair would freeze on her way to school. In the warm weather she would chase the boys with little green grass snakes. She had a bicycle & she and her friend Vera would ride to the next town down hill & take a train back up the hill & bike home from the station!
Beck also wrote: "After grammar school, my mother went to many different private schools. Dean, Northfield, Wheaton, U. Conn, and a school in NY. Maybe others."
The University of Connecticut connection is interesting because U Conn was founded as the Storrs Agricultural School in 1881. It was created through the support of Augustus and Charles Storrs, Mansfield relations of Ada May's who share the same ancestor, Thomas Storrs, who was born in Barnstable, Mass., in 1686, and later moved to Mansfield.
Ada May adopted a daughter, Mary Gaudreau. (Listed somewhere[1] as "Mrs. George Gaudrault of Columbia.")
The story according to Becky (Nally) Syphers is that Ada May's parents Annie and Edgar Storrs wanted to adopt Mary after Mary's mother died but they were considered too old. Ada May was the formal adoptive mother but Mary lived with Annie and Edgar.
Ada May married Hollis in Mansfield on November 20, 1913.
She died at 74 in Worcester, Massachusetts, and was buried in the Center Cemetery in Coventry, Connecticut.
She is mentioned in Obituary of her daughter Mildred A Bartlett Whitten.[2]
