Biography

Samuel Stower was born July 17 1692 in Charlestown to Samuel Stower and Hannah Sprague.[1] He was a carpenter and farmer. He remained at Charlestown until about 1717, possibly doing work as a carpenter in and around Middlesex (his marriage to Abigail has not been found), at which point he moved to Malden, Middlesex. About 1743 he removed to Leicester, Worcester, where he died, probably in 1763.

He married first Abigail (Unknown). They had:

  1. Samuel b. February 25, 1714/5 at Charlestown[2]
  2. James b. December 16, 1716 at Charlestown[3][4]
  3. Abigail b. August 21, 1718,[5] d. May 29, 1725 at Malden[6]
  4. Nathan[iel] b. October 28, 1720 at Malden[5]
  5. Abigail b. May 28, 1725 at Malden[5]
  6. Abijah[4]
  7. Mary[4]
  8. Sarah[4]
  9. Nehemiah b. July 4, 1736,[5] d. March 28, 1739 at Malden[6]
  10. Benjamin d. June 26, 1739 at Malden[6]

Abigail (unknown) died October 16, 1741.[6]

Samuel Stower, carpenter of Charlestown purchased land at Malden from Peter Tufts in 1717.[7]

Samuel Stower, yeoman of Malden, Middlesex, purchased land at Leicester, Worcester from John Nicholas in 1743.[8]

He married again, on January 15, 1745/6, to Lydia (Greene) Vinton.[9]

Samuel Stower of Leicester signed his will April 14, 1760.[4] In it he mentions sons James and Abijah Stowers, and daughters Abigail Cutting, Mary Willson, and Sarah Upton, deceased, and two Upton grandchildren. His estate entered probate court December 5, 1763.[10]

Stowers-586 and Stowers-157 appear to represent the same person because: James Stower (attached as son of Stowers-586) is the son of Stowers-157 as per attached sources (son of Samuel and Abigail Stowers). Stowers-586 was previously conflated with Stower-17, the father of Stowers-157.
