Leroy M. Straughn was born about 1815 in Georgia.[1][2][3]

He was married about 1834 to wife Mary[1][2] and had the following known children:

  1. Nancy Straughn was born in Alabama about 1835.[1]
  2. Rebecca Straughn was born in Mississippi about 1836.[1]
  3. Travis W. Straughn was born in Mississippi about 1838.[1][2]
  4. Elizabeth A. Straughn was born in Alabama about 1840.[1][2]
  5. Hillery Straughn was born in Alabama about 1842.[1]
  6. Wineford[1] "Winey" S. Straughn was born in Alabama about 1844.[2][3]
  7. James M. Straughn was born in Alabama about 1846.[1][2]
  8. Eliza Straughan was born in Alabama about 1848.[1]
  9. John Green Barrow was born 17 Jun 1849, died 08 Nov[4]1931 and is buried in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery, Dozier, Covington County, Alabama.[5][6][7][1][2]
  10. Andrew C. Straughn was born in Alabama about 1851[2] and died 08 Feb 1937 in Andalusia, Covington County, Alabama and was buried in Babbie Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.[8][9]
  11. Mary Ann Straughn was born in Alabama about 1853.[2] She married James Stewart.[3]
  12. Daniel J. Straughn was born in Alabama about 1855.[2]

Leroy died at his home near Rose Hill in July 1894.[4][10]

Mr. Leroy Straughn died at his home near Rose Hill, a few days ago. Deceased was one of our oldest and most respected citizens, and his loss will be deeply felt.[4]

Since the original survey in 1996, which appears in Tracking Your Roots: Covington County, Alabama Cemeteries by Franklin & Hidle, someone has placed a marker for him in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Covington County, Alabama as there was no marker for him there at that time.
