Biography

Name

Name: Frances Taylor
She is the presumed daughter of Richard and Ann Taylor of Watertown, Massachusetts. This is based on the 1659 will of Richard Taylor which names his daughter Frances Adams. A thorough search of the records has revealed no other possible Frances Adams, other than the wife George Adams.
She frequently is named in land deeds along with her husband George Adams.

Birth

Born: About 1625. (say between 1620 and 1627).
Estimate based on birth of first known child in 1645, presumed marriage by 1644and her still having children as late as 1663.
Children of George and Frances Adams:
  1. John Adams. Born 16 October ("16d. 8m.") 1645 in Watertown, Massachusetts.[1] He is one of only two children for whom a birth record exists, and is specifically called "eldest son" in a deed of his father in 1671.[2] He married Abigail Pinney, daughter of Humphrey Pinney and Mary Hull, on 6 December 1677 in Windsor, Connecticut.[3] They had 6 children all born at Simsbury, Connecticut.[4] He died on 22 November 1732 in Colchester, Connecticut.[5]
  2. George Adams. Born about 1647 as he was a witness in a case on 17 December 1662 and was ‘aged abt fifteen years.’ He married Martha Fiske on 28 February 1683/4 in Lexington, Massachusetts.[6] He died 17 February 1732/3 in Lexington.[7]
  3. Benjamin Adams. Born say 1650. The date is a complete guess to place him in the gap between George and Daniel (Mary could also fit in here). The only notice of this child is the record of his death on 26 October 1672 in Lancaster, Massachusetts. [8]
  4. Daniel Adams. Born about 1652 as he was stated to be aged 61 in his will dated 29 July 1713.[9] He died 7 November 1713 in Simsbury, Connecticut. Proof that this Daniel was son of George Adams of Watertown comes from a deed of sale where ‘Joseph Adams of Simsbury, son of Daniel Adams of Simsbury, deceased, who was also son of the aforementioned George Adams of Lancaster and Nashaway’ sold his 1/5th share of the Lancaster property.[10] He married Mary Phelps, daughter of Samuel Phelps on 20 September 1677 in Windsor, Connecticut.[11][12] Her stepfather was Nathaniel Pinney and some records call her Mary Pinney. Mary “departed this Life in or about the midle of march 1715.” He died 7 November 1713 in Simsbury, Connecticut.[13]
  5. Joseph Adams. Born 6 March 1657 in Watertown, Massachusetts. He is one of only two children whose births were actually recorded. He apparently died before his father and without issue as neither he nor any heirs inherited a share of the Lancaster property.[14]
  6. Samuel Adams. Born c1660 according to Gerald Parsons, though the reason for the estimate is not known or stated.[15] He was married Elizabeth Hill, the daughter of Luke and Mary Hill of Simsbury, Connecticut. They had 3 children born at Simsbury, Elizabeth on 21 February 1688 and twins Samuel and Joshua on 26 August 1689.[16] She died by 15 February 1694 when her father made his will.[17] He remarried to Deborah Bartlett, the daughter of Benjamin Bartlett and Deborah Bernard and the widow of Jeremiah Gillett. They had two children Gillett, born 19 February 1695 and Jemima 13 April 1699. He is last known living when he sold his 1/5th share of his inheritance in the land in Lancaster.
  7. Mary Adams. Born about 1663 as she was age 52 at her death in February 1715/6. She is known from multiple records where she inherited a 1/5th share of her father's estate. She was baptized and admitted to the church at Watertown on 21 November 1686. Mary, the only daughter, would have appeared to have lived out her life as a spinster in the household of her brother, George Jr. On 24 May 1715, George and Mary sold their respective 1/5th shares of Lancaster property to their older brother ‘John of Cholchester.’ She died 10 February 1715/6 at Lexington, Massachusetts.[18]

Death

Died: After 10 December 1696.
Date the inventory of her husband was taken.
Previously a date of 31 December 1696 at Lexington, Massachusetts was on this profile. I find no record of this and it does not occur in the Vital Records of Lexington. Lexington. Lexington Mass. Record of Births, Marriages and Deaths to January 1, 1898. (Boston: Wright & Potter, 1898): page 407.
