Biography

Jane Thompson was born circa 1831 at Noble County, OH (based on birth in 1856 Iowa census - other records have conflicting dates). She married Andrew Byers, son of Samuel Byers and Rebecca Wyley, on 7 September 1852 at Noble County, OH. Noble County was formed in 1851. Jane Thompson died on 28 February 1859 at Van Buren County, Iowa.[1]

The 1850 Census shows Jane living with husband Andrew and the rest of the Byers family in Brookfield, Morgan, OH. (before she was married?)

The 1856 Iowa Census, Van Buren, Demoines: Lists Andrew 27 born Ohio married to Jane B 25 born 1831 Ohio, with children Charles H (1853), Martha C (1855) born Iowa. Also Elizabeth Thomson age 65 (1791) born PA, widowed, who may almost be too old to be her mother. They lived next door to Bernard Byers (1797 PA) and Roberts Byers (1801 PA) with Martha Ann Byers (1780 OH) and children William (1836) Sarah C. (1838), Samuel M (1839). His father?

The 1856 relative may be Elizabeth Bateman Thompson 4 Jul 1790 Center, Beaver, PA - 4 Mar 1871 Keokuk, Iowa. Married Amos Thompson 1783-1851 abt 1825, with daughter Clara Drucilla Thompson 1834-1896.[2].

Other researchers have indicated her parents were David Thompson (29 Jan 1806 in Bath, Sagadahoc, Maine - 3 May 1876 in Bonaparte, Van Buren, Iowa) and Mahala Laycock/Lacock (12 SEP 1810 in Ohio - 27 Apr 1882 in Bonaparte, Van Buren, Iowa). The Ohio and Iowa locations and birth/marriage dates match up, but that does not explain Elizabeth Thompson b. 1791 living with them in 1856.[3]. Records at WikiTree show daughter Sarah Ann Thompson 1829 instead of Jane (no sources), though family histories show they had 13 children with a gap from 1829 to 1836, and it is possible that Jane was born abt 1831 in the interim.

Another record indicates she was married to Peter H. Richardson (8 Mar 1829 in Darke, Ohio - 12 Nov 1879 in Wabash, Darke, Ohio) on 30 Mar 1848 in Darke, Ohio. No sources. She may have been born before 1830 if this is true.[4]
