Biography

Gideon Tilghman was born probably before 24 June 1738, the son of Gideon Tilghman and Esther Holland. [1] This is contrary to the birthdate of 1732 listed in the Ancestry Member Trees. Both are possible. A possible validation for the 1738 date is the birth record for Stephen Tillmon, child of Gideon Tillmon and Easther was found in the Maryland with the date of 24 June 1738. [2] A study of the Tillman/Tilghman family in Somerset County, Maryland revealed that the family used both versions of the Tillman spelling early and moved to Tilghman later.

Gideon married Tabitha Dorman 17 August 1758. [3] According to Barnes, Maryland Marriages, 1637-1777, a Gidden Tilghman married Tabitha Dormon on 2 August 1758, and a Stephen Tilghman married Franceis (sp?) Paden (most likely his brother) on 12 Jul 1761 [4]

Research Notes

Confusion exists about whether Gideon Stephen Holland Tilghman was one person or two: Gideon and Stephen Holland Tilghman because of the entries in the Tilghman genealogy. Their father's entry #2983 lists a son "Gideon Stephen Holland without a comma separation, yet each son is listed separately: #4098 and #3099.[3]

Tillman Tilghman-2 and Tilghman-118 appear to represent the same person because: Same

Re merge of Tilghman-174 and Tilghman-118, it looks good except for the death information. I do not see any proof of death for March 1809 in Christian, Logan, Kentucky. That would be very helpful.
