Biography

Birth

"Lidiah ye Davghter of Saml Todd Junr born July 28th 1699" in New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut. She is the daughter of Samuel Todd and Susanna Tuttle.[1]

Marriages

"Mr Benjamin Doolittle and Lydia Todd ware Married to Each other October 24th 1717" in New Haven.[2] He died in 1748.

Lydia Doolittle married, second, on 26 October 1763, to Jonathan Belding of Hatfield, Massachusetts.

Lydia Belding married Japhet Chapin on October 24, 1778.

Children

Lydia Todd and Benjamin Doolittle had thirteen children, all born in Northfield, Hampshire, Massachusetts.

  1. Oliver Doolittle was born on 28 October 1718; died "in ye flower of his age."[3]
  2. Lydia Doolittle was born on 24 August 1720; married Lt. John Evans; died 2 April 1806.[4]
  3. Charles Doolittle was born on 31 July 1722; he was under Capt. Alexander in the expedition to Loisburg in 1745, where he was probably lost.[5]
  4. Eunice Doolittle was born on 24 July 1724; she married Samuel Ashley.[6]
  5. Susanna Doolittle was born on 13 June 1726; married Seth Field.[7]
  6. Lucius Doolittle was born on 16 May 1728; married Sarah, daughter of Deacon Sam'l Smith.[8]
  7. Chloe Doolittle was born on 4 May 1730; married Moses Evans.[9]
  8. Lucy Doolittle was born on 27 February 1731; died young.[10]
  9. Thankful Doolittle was born on 20 January 1733; married 10 July 1750 to Oliver Willard.[11]
  10. Amzi Doolittle Sr was born on 15 November 1737; married 6 December 1757 to Jerusha daughter of Deacon Sam'l Smith.[12]
  11. Lucy Doolittle was born on 15 July 1741; married 20 August 1765 to Simeon Chapin.[13]
  12. Son; died young; dates unknown.

Northfield and Chicopee

Lydia and Benjamin Doolittle left New Haven in 1717 and went to Northfield, Massachusetts, where he was engaged as the minister.

The widow Lydia Doolittle received 106 acres of 4th division land in 1751.

Her third husband Japhet Chapin lived in Chicopee, and after his death, she returned to Northfield.

Death

Lydia Todd died at an age of ninety on Thursday the 17th of June 1790 according to the papers and her gravestone. She is buried in the Chicopee Street Burying Ground in Chicopee, Hampden County, Massachusetts.[14]
