Samuel Todd was born March 6 1716-7[1]. His parents were Samuel Todd (1672-1742) and Susanna (Tuttle) Todd (1680-1737). He studied Theology at Yale and graduated 1734. Samuel married Mercy (Evans) Todd (1717-1782) 31 August 1739.[2] In 1740 He was chosen to be the Minister for the Northbury Church in Northern Waterbury Connecticut (now the town of Plymouth). Although mired in controversy between Old Light and New Light Congregationalists he managed to stay at Northbury until 26 June 1764 when he was dismissed or retired because of "prevailing bodily indisposition". Samuel and his family then moved to Lanesborough Massachusetts and then to North Adams Massachusetts where he established a Congregational Church 1766. Most of the original settlers of North Adams moved North or West in the next ten years selling their lands to Quakers and Baptists from Rhode Island, so in 1778 his Church became a town meeting house and Samuel became a Chaplin for the Army and moved to Northfield Massachusetts. After the war, 1782, Samuel moved to Orford Grafton New Hampshire with some of his children. He dies in Orford 10 June 1789.[3]
