Its likely that Erasmus was born circa 1700 and died about 1770. Reputed to have been a very wealthy man, he bought all the land around the area in which he settled in South Carolina. At its earliest, the town became known as Buzzard's Roost and was later named Pacolet.

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Erasmus by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.

Theres been a lot of confusion with the early Tollesons. Anybody know if John Daniel Tolleson or namely known as Daniel Tolleson (1739-1821) was the son of Erasmus. I'm the straight line descendant of Daniel. It gets murky of his relatives though. There are so many discrepancies I've found.
I know this comment is 4 years later but would also agree that 1670 is too early and a lot of people may have possibly mixed 2 generations together. There was possible a John Tolleson before Erasmus that was born circa 1650 and died circa 1721. Still trying to find answers. Even with that possibility, dates still do not seem right....
