Biography

Jesse Toney came from a large & long Toney branch that arrived at Jamestown Va in the early 1600s. They arrived from Britain but their ancestors can be found in Normandy France & Norway.

His original Virginia ancestor, William or Edward came here with brothers and served under the Williamson family. The Toney descendants moved South & West. They often went South to find Brides. Jesse's father, Poindexter, settled in the western part of Virginia that is now called West Virginia. At the time there were two different American Indian Tribes living in the area. Luckily for Poindexter, he was able to drive out the hostile tribe & developed a friendship with the Other Tribe.

The West Virginia Toney's had a large farm. Many of them worked in the mines. They built churches, school, country store & feed mill where they sold just about everything one would need. Interesting stories that were past down from generations included stories of having plumbing & Irrigation & electricity by a homemade generator. Toney's are found in the Fayette Co. History book as being know for their dark olive skin & hair. Their origins were unknown.

The story of Grandma Jarrell being related to Fitzgerald was also passed down & evidence found in the Toney Cemetery on the top of the Dothan Farm Homestead, where other Surnames can be found as part of the Toney Family. The "Peter's Cemetery" includes Surnames such as: Toney, Peter, Payne, Scarborough, Painter and others. This is a collection of Verbal Histories collected during 2002-2006 Interviews & Research of the Location by SB.

The parents' "confirmed with DNA" relationship status indicators were removed because the DNA confirmation is not properly documented.

Please see the G2G article on DNA confirmation for more information and guidance on how to provide the proper source documentation to confirm genealogy with DNA.
