Biography

Catherine aka "Katie" Troxel was born about 1783 in Loudon County, Virginia, the child of Jacob Troxel. Her mother has been suggested to be a Native American, Cornblossom Doublehead, but there is no proof of the existence of such a woman.

Catherine died Mar 21 1814 in Oneida, Scott County, Tennessee.[1]

She married Jonathan Blevins.[2]

"Know all men by these presents that we Jonathan Blevins and Elisha Blevins are held and firmly bound unto his excellence James Garrard Esq. Governor of Kentucky for the time being and his successors in Office in the sum of Fifty pounds Current Money for the use of the commonwealth to which payment will and truly to be made we bind ourselves and each of our Heirs etc. Jointly and Severally firmly by these presents sealed and Dated this 7th day of April 1803.
"The Condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended between the above bound Jonathan Belevins & Katy Trosall. If therefore there be no lawfull cause to obstruct the same then the above Obligation to be void else to remin in full force. Signed and acknowledged before me M. Paul C.W.C. (or E.W.E.?)Jonathan Blevins (his mark), Elisha Blevins.
The Consent of Jacob Troxall Father to the within named Katy was proved by the oath of John Troxall. Teste Micah Taul (sp?)..."

Some have used the above to associate Katy Troxel as the daughter of Jacob "Big Jake" Troxell and Princess Cornblossom, daughter of Chief Chuqualatague. But as you can see from the original, while her father is named Jacob, there is no further information about her parentage.

The presence of John Troxall suggests a relation to Katy-- possibly a brother?

Troxel-224 and Troxel-106 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth/same death dates; same spouse. Merge has been proposed for husband Jonathan Blevins.
Troxell-373 and Troxel-106 appear to represent the same person because: Troxel-106 is the correct spelling; see her father's name and biographical information. This merge is being proposed in order to remove a blank profile for Catherine Troxell.
Troxel-106 and Troxell-373 are not ready to be merged because: I think more research needs to be done before any merge is completed. Problems with different husbands for one.
Hi, managers & trust list members. I just stumbled across the proposed merge between this profile (Troxell-106) and another (Troxel-373) & wondered if somebody could tell me what's up? I'm putting a msg on both profiles as well as private messaging b/c I don't know which person is best to ask.

Troxel-373 has Armstead Blevins (Blevins-2087) listed as husband & married in 1803, but that Armstead wasn't born until 1817. Not sure how that even got entered. There is the other Armstead (Blevins-638), who is listed as half-brother to the 2087 one, born in 1820. But he's also the son of the husband of this Catherine Troxel-106. So, that's about as far as I can make it, b/c I'm so addled! It looks to me like some kind of overhaul needs to be done before merging anybody, but that's just me. Thanks!

I'm told that this could very well be the last such reunion. For more info call Martha Cain at (865) 671-0453 or Charlotte Horne at (803) 438-3701. Martha and Charlotte advise bring the family and a covered dish to share for the potluck meal. This reunion is to honor the genealogy done years ago by Laccie W. and Ray E. Blevins who published the fine book entitled "Jonathan Blevins Sr. of Virginia and His Descendants" which is now long out of print.
