Biography

"first daughter of Noah Tryon 3.2g and Penelope (Hollister) Tryon, was born at Glastonbury, Conn., date unknown. She married first, Mr. Hale. No children reported. On Nov. 29, 1761, she married second, Ephraim Goodrich, Jr., son of Ephraim Goodrich and Hannan (Steele) Goodrich, by Rev. Richard Ely, at Saybrook, Conn. (Stiles gives the father as William Goodrich.) Ephraim was born at Glastonbury, Dec. 9, 1722. This was the second marriage for both. He had five children by his first wife. He died in February of 1771, when he was lost at sea. She died at Tioga, N.Y., Nov. 15, 1826. Five children were reported to this union:

Penelope Goodrich 5.40a,
Noah Goodrich 5.40b,
Jemima Goodrich 5.40c,
Ruth Goodrich 5.40d,
Penelope Goodrich 5.40e."[1]

Birth

Jul 1739 Glastonbury, Hartford, Connecticut, United States [1] but that source is not documented. She was not yet 21 when her father wrote his will on 3 Oct 1758 so she was born after Oct 1737 and, given the wording in the will I doubt her 21st birthday was coming up soon. Her eldest brother Noah was born 1739 based on his reported age at death. The next sibling is Elizur who probably was born about 1744. I'm guessing 1740 for no good reason.

Residence

Glastonbury, Connecticut. [2]

Marriage

25 NOV 1761. [2]

Research Notes

Ephriam Goodrich, husband: An Ephriam Goodrich was born in 1722 in Glastonbury, s. of Ephriam and and Hannah. An Ephriam Goodrich was baptized in 1729 in Wethersfield, s. of Ephriam Goodrich and Susannah Hooker, on the same day as a child named Daniel Hooker Goodrich, and the widowed mother Susannah. They could, of course, be the same person. An Ephriam Goodrich married a Rebekah Goodrich in 1748 in Wethersfield. Since Penelope didn't marry her Ephriam until 1761, it is possible that Ephriam was married twice.
