Biography

Japheth Turner was born on 04 January 1682[/3?] in Duxbury, Plymouth Colony, the son of Japheth and Hannah (Hudson) Turner,[1][2][3][4] Japhet and two of his siblings were baptized in the Second Church of Scituate on 24 June 1683.[5][6]

He married Hannah Hatch by 1702 when the birth of their first child was recorded in Pembroke.[7][8]

His mother Hannah Turner of Duxbury executed a deed on 08 March 1696/7, recorded on 25 August 1697, in which she gave to her son Japhett Turner, out of "good will & motherly affection" 50 acres of upland and meadow with housing and marshland of 8 acres, "to be holden according to the mannor of East Greenwich in the county of Kent in free & common..."[9] Hannah's father deeded this same property to her on 05 April 1684.[10]

Japheth died before 20 January 1710, the date his estate was inventoried. Hannah Turner, relict widow of Japhett Turner late of Duxbury, was appointed administration on his estate on 29 January 1710. Inventory of his estate was taken on 20 January by Francis Barker and Samuel Stetson, and sworn to by the widow on 02 February 1710. It included 6 acres of swamp meadow, farm stock and typical farming instrument and household goods. [11] Hannah Turner made her account of the estate settlement in December 1712. It included the original inventory, plus 20 acres of common lands in Duxbury, more land yet to be laid out there. The division of the estate values were given, and listed the widow's third part, eldest son Japhat's part, second son Israel's part, daughter Hannah's part, and the youngest Elizabeth's part.[12] On 13 December 1712, Hannah was made guardian to Japhat, Israel, Hannah and Elizabeth Turner, minors under the age of fourteen years.[13]
