Biography

Martha Tuttle was born on December 6, 1761, in Salisbury, Connecticut, her father, Thomas Tuttle, was 26, and her mother, Lydia (Owen) Tuttle, was 35. She married Joseph Barker on November 13, 1777, in Brandon, Rutland, Vermont. They had at least seven children during their marriage, including: Rhoda (1779-1859), Joseph (1781-1857), Solomon ((1782-1857), Lura Barker (1784-1839), Jonathan (1792-1865), Hugh (1794-1860), and Marcus Barker (1798-1886). She died in April 1832 in Byron, New York, at the age of 70, and was buried in the North Byron Cemetery.
