Martha Scargill was born in about 1812 in Thornhill, Yorkshire, England.
Martha Scargill or Beatson, daughter of Sarah Scargill [and presumably a Mr Beatson], was christened on 3 May 1812 in Thornhill By Dewsbury.[1]
Martha Scargill married Joseph Jackson on 24 Jan 1836 in Kirkheaton, Yorkshire.[2]
Martha and Joseph had five children [birth registrations for John, Emma, & Elizabeth confirm Martha's maiden name Scargill; no registrations located for Hannah & Sarah]:
In 1841 Martha Jackson (age 25-29) lived at Dyke End Road in Huddersfield, Yorkshire with her husband Joseph (25-29), daughter Hannah (3), and son John (0).[3]
In 1851 Martha Jackson (age 39) lived at Thread Needle Street in Huddersfield with her husband Joseph (39, Saddler Employing 8 Men) and five children: Hannah (13, Scholar), John (10, Scholar), Sarah A (8, Scholar), Emma (4, Scholar), and Elizabeth (2), as well as servant Jonathan Marsden (17, Saddler's Servant).[4]
Martha's husband passed away in 1856.
In 1861 Martha Jackson (age 50) lived at Spring Place in Huddersfield with three of her daughters: Sarah H (18, Sewing Machine Tenter), Emma (14, Wollen Piecer), and Elizabeth (12, Servant).[5]
Martha Jackson passed away in 1863, aged 51 years. Her death was registered in Huddersfield in the second quarter of the year.[6]
