The exact birthdate of John Wake, 1st Lord Wake, is unknown. He was the eldest son and heir of Sir Baldwin Wake, Knt., and his second wife Hawise de Quincy.[1]
He came of age in 1290.[2] He was the first of his line to be recognized as a peer, "Lord Wake" in 1299.[3]
John married, about 1286, Joan de Fiennes, the daughter of William de Fiennes and Blanche de Brienne.[1] There were at least three children from this marriage:
John Wake, 1st Lord Wake, died soon before 10 April 1300.[1]
On 8 September 1304, at the instance of Margaret the Queen, Joan, late the wife of John Wake was granted for the term of her life a weekly market on Wednesday at her manor of East Deping co Lincoln, and a yearly fair there.[4]
