One researcher believes that John was the son of George, II, and wife Elizabeth (SHERWOOD_?), of Antigua, British West Indies and Hanover County, VA.
Another researcher believes he is the son of EDWARD WALTON Jr. and ELIZABETH MASON.

I have a Lt. Josiah Jesse Walton Sr. R.S. b.10 Jan (or Nov) 1739 in Hanover Co., Va. His wife was Ann Pleasant, father John Walton b Sep 1709 in New Kent Co. VA, a physician, His mother Mary Sims b 1718 in Hanover Co. I need to work on this line as it is far from complete. Can you help me or is this a different Jesse?
I have searched for the last year trying to determine if the Walton Family Papers, 1710 -1879 were ever put in book form by its author, William H. Black of Chicago, Illinois. if anyone has any info concerning this please let me know at [email address]. The papers contain 696 pages of info, mostly concerning the family of John Walton, Sr. and Mary Sims of Hanover and Louisa Counties of Virginia.
Helen -- you must be from the Panola Co. TX line. An intriguing group that I have traced two or three Walton groups to settle there in the early 1800s. My line comes from John Sr. and Mary (Sims), Jesse and Ann (Pleasant), William and Sally (Tanner) in Pittsylvania Co.,VA. Jessie Simeon Walton left for TN, AR and settled in Corsicana TX. He was my ggggrandfather. I haven't been doing this for forty years but would enjoy sharing what I have with you. Please write if you are interested. I've got about 4000 total and several hundred of these are Waltons.
I have a Newell Walton, s/o John Walton, Jr. and Mary Sims. He was born December 13, 1763. Could be father or grandfather of your Newell.
I followed that line of reasoning for 20 years and I hate to tell you it's all wrong. Edward Walton, Jr. was the father of John Walton, Sr. who married Mary Sims. I understand there is a problem with your email address, if you get this I will send you my info which is documented.
Is my info all wrong? My records (undocumented) say: Robert, Sr. came to America in 1682 with Wm. Penn; Robert, Jr., his son married Sally Hughs; their son was John (bn 1715). John married Mary Sims; their son was George the signer; don't have his wife's name; their daughter was Nancy (Bn ?); Nancy married John Terrill in 1818; their son was Joshua D (bn 1861); he married Emma Louise Schleicher; their daughter was Emma Louise Terrill who married Jex Howard Luce in 1913. The last were my grandparents.
Does anyone have Martha Walton b. 1800 in Brunswick Co, VA? She married George Sims Jr. Their daughter was Lorainah Sims who married a Jayne.
According to Kerns: John Walton, probable son of Edward Jr. and Elizabeth Walton, was born in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, on Aug. 7, 1709. This may be the same John Walton who married Mary Sims. If so, they settled in nearby Henrico County, Virginia where he died in 1772. If this is taken as the final word, then it appears that John's parents and birthdate are uncertain. Kerns points out that according to New Kent Parish records, there was a John Walton who died [there] on Jan. 23rd, 1721--1722.

↑I descend from Catherine (Walton) Harris & added the note that George's mother & footnotes in the lineage presented.
↑ Source? Profile for son George says his parents are George and Catherine (unknown) Walton.
↑George Walton: will dated July 7, 1764; probated Brunswick County, Va. on January 26, 1767; names wife Elizabeth, children John Walton, Mary Ledbetter, Catherine Harris, Isaac Row Walton. Adam Sims is given a shilling.
↑ 4.04.1 Misreading of will? Description of land willed to son John mentions George Walton Jr. & Thomas Walton, but not as children. (At the time, Jr/Sr was used to distinguish any two men [or women] with the same name living in close proximity & not necessarily father/son. Sometimes even no relation, but more often cousins other close kinship.
↑ See Research Notes on John's profile - his wife's maiden name appears to have been Person or Pearson (but she wasn't the widow of Charles Pearson, who married a Rebecca Walton).

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
A note in this profile asks: "Does anyone have Martha Walton b. 1800 in Brunswick Co, VA? She married George Sims Jr. Their daughter was Lorainah Sims who married a Jayne."
I'm looking for a home for Martha Walton (profile says b 1711, but no source) married George Sims Sr. (Sims-2502, but brother of George Sims Jr. Sims-6065), both b 1709.
Could that Martha - Walton-71 - be the one you're looking for? (But with the years REALLY off?)
She is not a daughter of George & Elizabeth (Rowe) Walton & I'm about to disconnect her as such.
Cheers, Liz
P.S. The birth/death dates for her children have been removed, and looking at her descendants -https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Walton-Descendants-71 - she's gr-grandmother to Mary (Sims) Walton b 1718 - yup, definitely off!
Walton-312 and Walton-65 appear to represent the same person because: despite Walton-312 having parents attached (when Walton-65 notes there's no proof of his parents), these profiles appear to represent the same Dr. John Walter b 1709, m Sims. Please merge. Thanks!
(note ... if parents are detached, include text with links to them: Walton-307 and Mason-882 -and surely that DNA-proved for Edward must be wrong... probably the result of hitting "tab" after selecting uncertain, which will switch the selection to something else).
