Biography

Douce Warburton, daughter of John Warburton and his wife, Jane[1] Stanley, married John Starky,[2] or Starkie, of Wrenbury.[3]

In 2 Henry VIII [22 April 1510-21 April 1511], John Werberton, Kt, and William, Bishop of LIncoln, enrolled a deed at Chester, covenanting that Piers Werburton, son and heir apparent of the said Sir John should marry Elizabeth Wynyngton daughter and heir of Richard Wynyngton, Esquire, deceased; that if Piers died before the consummation of the marriage, then John Werburton, brother of the said Piers, should marry the said Elizabeth; the said John should make an estate in fee-simple, of lands in Appulton, to the value of 20l yearly, to George Bromley, Ralph Birkened, Roger Maynwaryng, and Thomas Smythe to the use of the said Piers and Elizabeth for life, in survivorship, with remainder to the heirs male of their bodies, with remainder over to the uses set forth in the entail made by Piers Werburton father of the said John, with respect to all his lands; the said Sir John should take the profits of the said lands until the coming of age of the said Piers and should pay to the Bishop 400 marks in yearly payments of 26l 13s 4d to commence on Elizabeth attaining the age of 14, and to cease on her death without heirs by Piers; all Sir John's manors, lands, &c., on his death should descend to the said Piers and his heirs according to estate tail by Piers Werburton, esquire, father of the said Sir John, excepting those lands charged with the jointure and dower of Dame Jane wife of the said Sir John, those charged with an annuity to Piers Werberton brother of the said Sir John, those to the value of 20 marks intended to be given by the said Sir John to John his second son, those held for life by John Werburton uncle to the said Sir John, those assigned for the marriage of Glyn or Dowte his daughters.[4]

Between 1518 and 1529, Jane, late the wife of John Werburton of Sutton, knight, from Cheshire, sued Sibell Starky of Stretton, single-woman, for a third of her said husband's goods and chattels `unleafully spoyled' at Sutton, no part given to her or to Elyn and Dowse, his unmarried daughters.[1]

Research Notes

Estimated Birth: 1492 from Geni (no source),[5] but it is a reasonable date considering her mother's birth year is given as after 1471.

Warburton-292 and Warburton-206 appear to represent the same person because: working on Jane Stanley's profile led me to Douce Warburton & John Starkey... and these two duplicate profiles. I've added some info to Warburton-206.

born c1478, she cannot be the daughter of Jane (Stanley) Warburton, whose parents were married after 1470 (see page 82, Dictionary of National Biography). I have detached this profile from Jane Stanley-266 and John Warburton-7.
edit - Doing further work on the profile of Jane (Stanley) Warburton, I think it would be better to change the birth year for this profile and re-attach it as their daughter (see citations on Jane's profile - Stanley-266. If no objections, I'll do that in a bit.

Warburton-49 and Warburton-292 appear to represent the same person because: She appears twice in Ormerod, George. The history of the county palatine and city of Chester Lackington, Hughes: London, 1819

1) As Douce (on page 430) wife of John Starkie of Wrenbury

2) As Dowse (on page 534) wife of Richard Aston
