Biography

Research Notes

Although the name Abigail Ward appears in hundreds of online trees as Lemuel's wife, I can find no source for this. The Newton Genealogy book has Suname unknown.[1]

Some trees have used the Ward Genealogy Book as a source, however the closest that book comes is to state that WIlliam Ward and Jane (probably Cleveland) had a daughter named Abigail b. Marlborough 17 Apr 1720 with no spouse named.[2]

I do find a marriage record in Marlborough 29 Nov 1744 of Abigail Ward to Abijah Knop. Marlborough birth records show 4 children 19 Nov 1745 Lucy, 15 Nov 1748 Abigail, 18 Jul 175 Benjamin and 5 Jul 1754 Elizabeth. If this is the daughter of William Ward and having children in the same time frame as Lemuel, she could not possibly be married to Lemuel.

The marriage to Abigail Ward appears to be quite uncertain.

There is no source to show that this is the spouse of Lemuel Newton.
