Nathaniel Warren. [1][2] He believed to have died sometime in 1847, probably at Amity, Allegheny County, NY. (Subsequent verification he died May 9, 1847 and is buried in Windus Cemetery, Amity, NY next to his sister, Cynthia Warren Flint). Nathaniel Warren was one of several men by that name who served in the War of the Revolution. While a resident of New Lebanon, Columbia County, NY he enlisted in May, 1775. He served in Captain George Whites Company (New York) until sometime in December, 1775, when he reenlisted in Captain Walkers company in Col. Worcesters New York Regiment. He again reenlisted in the fall of 1776 and served one month in the New York militia at Cherry Valley, the names of his officers not being given in his military record. He reenlisted in 1781 and served four months in Captain Skinners Company in Col. Willetts New York Regiment, was in the Battle of Johnstown and was discharged in the latter part of 1781. One year and three months of his service was as a private and three months as a corporal. He was allowed a pension on his application dated October 3, 1832, at which time he was living at Berlin, NY in Rensselaer County, NY. He stated that he had been a resident there but for a short time, having resided at New Lebanon in Columbia County most of the time since the Revolutionary war. His pension certificate, No. 24809, was issued March 7, 1834. The War Department records indicate that the last payment of his pension was made in March, 1847 and it is thought that he died during that year. At that time he was living in the Town of Amity, Allegheny County, NY where he had resided for one year having previously resided in the Town of Alfred in the same county. The 1790 census shows him to have been a resident of Canaan, Columbia County, NY with a family at that time consisting of a wife, two sons under 16 years and three daughters. The name of his wife and children are unknown to this compiler, with the exception of one daughter: 1. Abigail Warren, b. August 20, 1791, d. November 20, 1872, who married 1st. ca. 1809, David Cartwright and who m. 2nd Truman Pratt. This would agree with the birth date of March 1757 and the records from the War Department both for timing and for location. Windus Cemetery - Town of Amity, NY This cemetery is located on Route 19 South of Belmont next to the new county jail. This cemetery is surrounded by a fence and is kept in relatively good condition by the Town of Amity.
