Jonas Weed (1668-1706)
There were two Jonas Weeds, who lived at different times at Stamford, Connecticut, grandfather and grandson. They both married Marys. The grandfather Jonas Weed (1610-1672) married Mary Unknown He was the immigrant.
This Jonas Weed (1668-1706) married Mary Scofield who married as her 2nd to Samuel Hoyt.[1]
Please discuss any changes to these families before making them. A lot of misinformation is "out there." Only the most primary sources are appropriate for any pre-1700 profiles, and especially these.
Unfortunately these errors and more have been repeated throughout various user-submitted data bases and websites.
Jonas was born 5 February 1667/8 at Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut, son of John Weed (p 654).[2]
Jonas married to Mary Scofield, daughter of Daniel Scofield.[2] After his death, his widow Mary married on 31 December 1707, as her 2nd, and as his 2nd, to Samuel Hoyt.[1]

After Jonas died, Mary married, as her 2nd, to Samuel Hoyt.[1]
According to Jacobus, Jonas died on 18 November 1706 at Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut.[2] Inventory was taken on 8 Jan 1706/7, states that "he died 20 November 1706."[2] The probate abstract by Mead reports a third death date, 26 November 1706.[3]
WEED, Jonas, late of Stamford, son of John Weed, died Nov. 26, 1706, and on Jan. 28, 1706/7, letters of administration on his estate granted to his widow Mary Weed and Samuel Weed, pages 112 and 394.

Dec. 25, 1707, account filed, and estate ordered distributed by Davis Scofield, Steven Bishop and Elisha Holly to his widow Mary Weed, and children, No Names, page 112.
Dec. 25, 1707, the court appointed Samuel Weed guardian of John and Nathan, sons do decedent, and the widow Mary Weed guardian of Miles and Sarah, other children of decedent, page 112a.[3]
Some early genealogists were mistaken in regards to the earlier Jonas Weed (grandfather to this Jonas). Savage turned him into father and son, with the father at Watertown and Wethersfield and the son at Stamford. Manwaring's abstracts of Connecticut probate refer to Jonas Weed of Southampton, Long Island, but Anderson believes this was almost certainly a mis-reading of the name Jonas Wood.[4] Because of these errors, we have additional difficulty in separating the early from the later Jonas Weeds of Stamford.
