Biography

Sarah Whipple was born at Grafton, Massachusetts on January 11, 1729, daughter of James Jr. and Sarah (Adams) Whipple. [1] [2] [3]

She married Isaac Willard at Grafton on December 29, 1746. Isaac was born there on April 15, 1724, son of Joseph and Martha (Clarke) Willard. [1] [2] [3] [4]

In the division of the estate of her father James Sr., who died intestate, the court ordered that the real estate valued at L512 be divided among the four children as follows; [5]

  • sons James Jr. and John Whipple
  • daughters Lydia Whipple and widow Mary Winchester. [5]

The court ordered further that James Whipple Jr. pay his sisters Sarah Willard, wife of Isaac Willard and sister Eunice L64 each. And ordered that John Whipple pay his brother Daniel the same amount. [5]

The following persons, signed final settlement on May 20, 1760, as satisfied with the above divisions:

  • James Whipple Jr.
  • Jacob Whipple as guardian for John and Eunice
  • Mary Sherman and Ephraim Sherman Jr.
  • Ephraim Sherman Jr. as guardian for Daniel and Lydia
  • Isaac Willard and Sarah, his wife [5]

Sarah died by September 3, 1768, then Isaac married second, Mercy Dudley. [4]

Her husband Isaac died at Worcester, Massachusetts in January, 1806. [3] [4]

Isaac's will was written on April 4, 1805. In it he names: [6]

  • son Isaac Willard
  • daughter Molley Hayward, wife of James Hayward
  • daughter Betty Bixby, wife of John Bixby
  • grandchildren Prudence, wife of Ephraim Goodale and James, Abigail, Stephen, Mary, John and Isaac Willard, children of my son James deceased
  • grandchildren Willard and Phebe Johnson, children of my daughter Sarah, deceased
  • daughter Lucretia Willard and Eunice Willard
  • son Clark Willard
  • friend Benjamin Heywood Esq., executor[6]
