Biography

Name

Thomas Whitbred. [1] Also known as: Thomas Whitbraad. [2] Thomas Whitbread. [3]

Birth

Birth: ABT 1522, Upper Gravenhurst, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND. Source: Footnote: Information on the Whitebread family is mainly from The American Genealogist, Vol. 32, No. 3, pp. 129-142.

Thomas Whitbred, was born about 1518 and was buried 6 Jun 1585 in Upper Gravenhurst, Bedfordshire, England. [4]

Family

Children:

John Whitbred, born about 1541, was buried on 28 Nov 1598, in Upper Gravenhurst, Bedfordshire, England. John married Eleanor HILL (buried 20 Nov 1628).[5]

Burial

Burial Notes: It is not proven that the Thomas buried in 1585 is the Thomas born around 1522. However, it is more than likely. If Thomas had a son Thomas, he would have been around 40 years old in 1585 and would therefore likely to have been married and had children. There is however no marriage or any other evidence for the existence of such a Thomas. Likewise for a grandson Thomas. The first Thomas born in or before 1500 would likely have been dead before this time. [6]

Ancestral Note

Thomas is mentioned in the following conveyance:

"Conveyance of Wm. Whitbred of Ion alias Ine, Upper Gravenhurst, gent; Henry Whitbread of the same, get (son and heir apparent of Wm.)and Elizabeth his wife; Wm. Carter of Offley, Herts, gent; and John Shepard of Upper Gravenhurst, yeoman; to Wm. Aleyn, citizen & grocer, of London; for 2,200 pounds paid to Wm. and Henry Whitebred; with convenat to levy a fine. A capital house or manor house in the tenure of Wm. and Hen.Whitbred; 4 cottages in Upper Gravenhurst (names of occupants are given). Covenant as to "tytles troubles charges incumbrances and demands whatsoever heretofore donne or wittingly suffered by them the said Wm. Whitbred and Hen. Whitbred or either of them or by John Whitbred deceased father of the sd. Wm. Whitbred or by Thomas Whitbread his deceased grandfather." 8 October 1639. (Whitbread Collection at Bedford Record Office, particulars supplied by Anthony R. Wagner, Richmond Herald.)"

"From this record we learn that Thomas was father of John, who was father of William, who was father of Henry. That this Thomas was a near relative of the older Thomas who heads the First Line, seems ceretain, but it is idle to speculate in the absence of records whether he was a son, nephew or other connection. "

Note

His is a second Whitbread line, probably related to another Whitbread family in the Upper Gravenhurst area. See Torrey's article in TAG.

Geni claims his father is Thomas Roger Whitbread, mother is Eleanor De Beauchamp.

Radcliffe-1069 is listed as the mother of John, but not the wife of Thomas.

Whitebread-49 and Whitbred-2 appear to represent the same person because: Please review , information is VERY similar....

The Sources S1 and S2 I have added suggest that Thomas's wife was Jane Beauchamp or perhaps Eleanor Jane Beauchamp. His father was possibly Thomas Whitebread. His mother was perhaps Grace Sponer.

I think Eleanor Hill is the wife of Thomas' son, John (1541-1598). Eleanor Hill was born in 1550.

Bio says he John Whitbred m. Eleanor Hill, but his profile is attached as husband of Eleanor Radcliffe instead. Profile managers, would you please advise which is correct?
