Joseph White, son of Josiah and Remember (Read) White,[1] was born in Salem or Salem Village (now Danvers), Massachusetts. It is unknown when he was born but estimating from his marriage in 1711, perhaps about 1690 or earlier based on the fact that his parents were married before 1680.[2] He was named in his fathers 1710 will, at which point the family lived in Boxford, Massachusetts.[1][3]
Joseph White married, at Boxford, 31 Aug 1711, Beatrix Holton/Houghton, who was still living 12 Jan 1725/6 "near Sutton."[1][4][5]
Joseph, then of Sutton, married a second time, in Salem, 23 Nov 1738,[6][7] Sarah Gardner, who was living 20 Dec 1750.[1]
29 July 1720 Joseph White of Salem, joiner and his wife, Beatrix sold land at Salem and at Boxford, the deed was also signed by mark by Remember White[1][8] The same couple of Hutchinson's Farm, near Sutton, sold land in Hutchinson's Farm on 12 Jan 1725/6.[1][9]
Joseph died between 12 Jul 1750 and 20 Dec 1750. On the first date Joseph White of Sutton, joiner, deeded land in Sutton to Josiah White Jr., joiner and Joseph White Jr.[1][10] 20 Dec 1750 Sarah White, widow, and eldest son Jonathan consented to allow sons Joseph and Josiah Jr to administer Joseph's estate. His inventory was taken on 27 December 1750 in Sutton.[11] A division took place on the estate of Joseph White of Sutton, yeoman, on 27 July 1753. Josiah White of Sutton was to pay his siblings Jonathan, Joseph, John, Mary, Abigail (wife of Jonathan Church) and Sarah (wife of Ebenezer Bacon.[1][12]
