Biography

Ebenezer White was the first minister of the church at Bridge Hampton. His home lot was at Saggaponack opposite the ancient burials grounds where he lies at rest. Abstracts of Wills on File in the Surrogate's Office: City of New ..., Volume 28 for his father Ebenezer White's probate. Page 109 [1]

"Will: In the name of Gos, Amen. I, Ebenezer White, of the town of Southampton, in Suffolk County, 'Clericus,' being weak of body but of perfect mind, Thanks be to God therefor...I leave to my son, Elnathan, my home lot ...I leave to my son, Silvanus White...The acre of orchard I give to the children of my son, Silas White, Deceased...I leave to my duahgter, Hannah Roseter...I leave to my three daughters, Hannah Roseter, Mary White, and Phebe White, equally...I leave to my grandson, Ebenezer White, my cane, and my gun to his son, Samuel White...Witnesses were Josiah Pierson, Henry Pierson and John Cook.

There is a big debate over who the wife of Ebenezer White really was. Certain books and reference materials list her as being Mehitable Topping. Others list her as being Hannah Peirsons. No one is 100% sure which one is correct.

The first meeting house was built in 1670 which in 1737 was superseded by the one lately pulled down having stood more than 105 years The present large and handsome structure was completed in 1842 The first regularly settled minister of this church of which its records furnish any account was the Rev Ebenezer White son of Ebenezer and grandson of Thomas White of Weymouth Mass where he was born Feb 17 1672 graduated at Harvard in 1692 and was installed in this church Oct 9 1695 He was obliged to resign his calling on account of bad health in 1748 having preached 53 years and sunk to his eternal rest in March 1756 aged 84 years
