Biography

Alexander White, Sr. is not accepted as a child of Jonathan White by the Mayflower Society.

Please do not reconnect Jonathan White as father.
"The authors found no evidence to support the claim of Roscoe R. White in White Family Record (1939) pp 22-5, that Jonathan White m. 8 Aug 1708 Margaret Elizabeth Alexander, b. Ca. 1670 and had 2 children: Alexander b. 8 Sept. 1709, and Margaret. Alexander is said to have d. Greenwich NJ in Sept. 17767 having had 10 children, including one name Peregrine. When Roscoe White submitted this lineage to the Mayflower Society, the only evidence offered was a record in a family Bible printed in 1870, with all entries in the same hand. The Society does not accept this lineage."[1]

He was born on 08 Sep 1709 in Yarmouth, Barnstable, Massachusetts.[citation needed]

He migrated west to New Jersey.

Alexander White married on 21 Mar 1736 in Sussex, New Jersey to Mary McMurtrie (b: 18 Apr 1711; d: 1781) and their children included [2] ...

Prudence White, b: 1756; d: 1803 Sussex, NJ; m: (tentative) James Clifford on FamilySearch.org it shows there is no entry for James Clifford as the spouse of Prudence White. https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LLCC-CX7 If anyone can show that James Clifford is the spouse of James Clifford please provide any documentation.
  7. Samuel A. White, b: 16 Mar 1758; d: 21 Oct 1841 Briggsdale, Pickaway, OH; m: 04 Apr 1780 Jane Stewart

He prospered as a shoemaker, farmer and lawyer. The Whites built a most imposing home in he Warren County, New Jersey region, proudly named "White Hall". Gen. George Washington was said to have stayed at "White Hall" in in 1780 en route to his army encampment at Morristown, New Jersey. William Henry Harrison, the Whig who opened up Ohio and Indiana for settlement after defeating the Shawnee Indians and Tecumseh at Tippecanoe, delivered a presidential campaign speech from the upper veranda of "White Hall".

Alexander White and his wife Mary (Clifford) saw three of their sons join the fight for the colonies' independence from England.

"Oxford Township claims credit for the first two soldiers from our country to join the revolution ... Capt. McMurtrie and Lt. William White, both of whom were in the Sussex County Committee of Safety, joined the Army at Boston, MA right after the Battle of Bunker Hill. Lt. White is the son of Alexander White."

That battle was fought on 17 June 1775 when William White was approx 38 yrs old. His son Alexander also fought in the American Revolutionary War. His youngest son, Samuel White, was 18 when he enlisted a year later.

Alexander White, Sr. drew his last Will and testament on 07 Sep 1776 which named his wife Mary and his son William, as his executors. His only children that were not mentioned in his last Will were Peregrine, Henry and John.

He died in September 1776 in Sussex County, New Jersey, USA. [3]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Alexander by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Alexander:

White-38853 and White-2062 appear to represent the same person because: same birth, parents, siblings, spouse, child, death

Apparently the dna was incorrectly input and that person does not know how to fix it. It should have been applied to Alexander McMurtie White, b: 04 Jun 1752; d: 1815; m: Mary Beavers.

Before marking a parent as 'confirmed with DNA,' please ensure that DNA matching information is included in the profile for at least two testers, including where the DNA was matched, the amount of shared DNA, and the estimated relationships.

'Confirmed with DNA' should not be set before the necessary DNA confirmation statement has been added to the child's profile.

You can see what is required under the DNA Confirmation (click) topic of WikiTree's Help pages.

Thank you.

I removed Johnathan White as father. According to the Mayflower Society, there is DNA evidence disputing the relationship. Y-chromosomal DNA should be passed along an entire male line. Male descendants of Alexander do not match other male descendants of Johnathan. It appears the first record of this relationship(and the existence of his supposed mother Margaret Alexander) was a history of the White family published by Roscoe White, which cited an 1870's family bible written in a single hand. Being at least 100 after the fact and with no supporting evidence this source can not be considered as reliable.

Alexander appears to have false parents, per the Mayflower Silver Book vol. 13 -- White Family, p. 17, which explicitly states that Alexander is not accepted as a Mayflower descendant.
