Biography

Hatch Whitfield [1][2][3] was born about 1794 in North Carolina. [4][5] He was the son of William Whitfield and Hepzibah (Hatch) Whitfield.[6][7] According to S.A.R. record #38920 for William Whitfield (1743 - 1817), his son Hatch Whitfield was born 5 March 1794 in Duplin County, North Carolina.[7]

During the War of 1812 he served as an Ensign in the 2nd Regiment (Bruton's) North Carolina Militia.[1]

He was first married to Hepzibah Whitfield, daughter of Needham Whitfield and Elizabeth (Hatch) Whitfield.[6] They had the following children:

In 1835 he left North Carolina and settled near Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi.[6] In the 1840 U.S. Census, Hatch was enumerated in Monroe County, Mississippi.[3]

In the 1850 U.S. Census, Hatch Whitfield was recorded as 57-years old living in Monroe County, Mississippi with 58-year old wife Hepzibah Whitfield. He was a plantation owner and his real estate was valued at $35,000. [4]

He seems to have returned to North Carolina, following the death of his wife, where he married Mrs. Anna Rollins, widow, and mother of three children. [6][5]

Hatch and Anna had the following children:

7. Louisa Whitfield, born c. 1853 [5]
8. Hatch Whitfield, born c. 1857 [5]
9. Charlotte Whitfield, born c. 1859 [5]
