Bryan Whitfield Jr was born about 1782 in Lenoir, North Carolina. He was the son of Bryan Whitfield and Nancy (Bryan) Whitfield.[1] In 1800, Bryan Whitfield Jr was enumerated in the U.S. Census, living in Kinston, Lenoir, North Carolina, as head of a 20 person household, which included one male - age 16 thru 25 (Bryan) and 19 slaves. His father Bryan was listed the line above his entry in the census.[2]
Sometime after 1800, he married Elizabeth Turner and according to the Whitfield book, didn't have any children.[1] In the 1810 U.S. Census, he was recorded living in Lenoir County, North Carolina, as head of 36 person household, which included two children, a boy and girl, under the age of 10. Perhaps Elizabeth was previously married and had children. Another possibility is that they were his deceased sister Nancy's children, William Donnell Cobb and Elizabeth "Betsy" Heritage Cobb.
