Biography

Joseph was a Friend (Quaker)

Joseph was born 13d 10m 1677 [13 Dec 1677] in Hempstead, New York.[1] He was the son of Hope and Marcy Willets.[1][2]

He married Deborah Seaman, daughter of Solomon and Elizabeth Seaman, on 6d 11m 1702 [6 Jan 1703].[2] Joseph was married at his grandmothers, Mary Willets, home at Jericho, Long Island. The signatures to their marriage record are "Willetts and Willetts".

Their daughter Deborah married Samuel Wilson & they removed to Berkes Co. Pa. in 1731. Joseph and Solomon Willetts, were given a certificate of removal from Little Egg Harbor to the Chesterfield monthly meeting in Burlington Co., New Jersey in 1735. Joseph was one among 96 others to remove to the West Jersey Great Tract, in Hunterdon Co.. There he is credited with 200 acres.

  • Deborah, b. 3/14/1712, d. 6/2/1772, married Samuel Wilson, b. 3/19/1706, son of Samuel & _____ Wilson
  • Henry, b. 1/14/1714; d.1/7/1755, married to Sarah Lee, daughter of Antony & Mary, b. 10/29/1717 ,d. 12/22/1754.
