Adjutant William Williams served with 1st Spartan Regiment, South Carolina Militia during the American Revolution.

William Williams is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A126738.

William Williams was born March 15, 1753, in South Carolina. At the time of the American Revolutionary War, William and his wife, Lucy Horton were residing in the Camden District of South Carolina. William was a Staff Officer, Adjutant to Colonel James Stean, in 1779. [1]

William Williams is honored for his military service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A126738. DAR records indicate that William died September 20, 1831, in the Kershaw District of South Carolina. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his sons, Eli Williams, who married Mary Hollingsworth Truesdale; William Williams, who married Tilla (?nee); John C. Williams, who married Elizabeth (?nee) and Joshua Williams; and of his daughter Margaret Williams, who married Tyre Mehaffey. [2]

He enlisted during the fall of 1775.... He was in the Snow Campaign, Florida Campaign and expeditions against the Indians,..., in the battles at Stono, Charleston, Rocky Mount, Hanging Rock, Fish Dam Ford, Blackstock's Plantatio0n, Cowpens, One Door Bridge, and Eutaw Springs. He was wounded by a sabre at Cowpens. A.A.8578; X2437; Annuitants Claims."

The following abstract notes a daughter Susannah Williams born in 1787 to William Williams. All of the surnames mentioned herein were close neighbors in the Chesterfield-Kershaw-Lancaster Districts of South Carolina. The daughter, Susannah, mentioned in this abstract is believed to the wife of Joseph Hough also of Chesterfield and Kershaw districts.

Sol had m Lucy, daughter of Daniel Horton of Lynches Creek in SC (prob Kershaw Dist., SC) and she was b. 14 Oct 1761; wi-- 27 Nov. 1840 at the home of her son Joshua Williams in Kershaw District SC.

Sol's bro Moses Williams also serve in the Rev. War and was wounded at Charleston SC, wid's uncle Henry Horton was refered (sic) to, in 1850 Jesse and Evan Horton were of Kershaw Dist SC and in 1796 a Howel Horton was referred to (their kinsip (sic) to wid not stated).[3]

Clearly some of these survivors must have been grandchildren or Lucy would have been bearing into her 50s or 60s.
