Biography

Elizabeth Woodson was born 1711–1713 in Curles Plantation, Henrico County, Virginia. She is the daughter of Robert Woodson and Rachel Watkins.

Elizabeth married John Knight ("of Lunenburg County") about 1728–1729, likely in Henrico or Goochland County.

Elizabeth Knight is named in John's Will dated 7 September 1771 in Lunenburg County, Virginia.[1]

1776 - Jun 10 – VA Lunenburg – Admin – List of Tithes – Selected: Mark Andrews, Abraham Andrews, Thomas Andrews, Peter Andrews, Thomas Andrews, James Anderson, Daniel Dejarnette, Lodowick Farmer, Lodowick Farmer JR, Benjamin Farmer, Joel Farmer, John Haley, Henry Haley, John Haley SR, Ambrose Haley, Edward Jordan, SR, Edward Jordan, Samuel Jordan, Benjamin Jordan, Elizabeth Knight’s Tithes, Woodson Knight: 8; Peter Knight: 4, Gideon Moore, Drury Moore, William Moore, William Moore JR, Peter Moore, Jesse Moore, Allen Stokes, Richard Stokes SR, Henry Stokes, Henry Walker, Elizabeth Stokes, William Tucker, George Tucker, William Tucker SR, Martha Tucker, Thomas Walker, David Stokes, William Stokes, (Landon Bell, p.374-378) Note: John Knight still missing, and now Joseph Knight has left also. He apparently moved to Mecklenburg and died there in 1789, leaving a will mentioning his brother, Jonathan Knight.

She died after 1784 in Lunenburg County, Virginia.

John Knight (c. 1710-1771), believed to have been the son of Peter Knight [probably not], served as a witness to an indenture between Samuel Gregory of Charles City County and William Knight of Goochland County in 1727. In this transaction, Gregory sold Knight 130 acres in Goochland County for £20 - land formerly owned, in part, by Joseph Woodson. Joseph had a sister Elizabeth Woodson, who married John Knight about two years later. In June 1742, William and John Knight sold the same 130 acres for £50. In February of that year, John had received a patent to 383 acres of land in Brunswick (now Lunenburg) County. John and Elizabeth been married for 14 years when they moved to these newly settled lands. However, within six more years, John was buying land in North Carolina, owning finally about 1,000 acres. He lived there for a time, but eventually moved back to Lunenburg County. His Will, covering six pages, lists what his twelve children have already received and what he feels is due them. The children were Jonathan, John, Peter, William, Joseph, Rachel, Charles, Woodson, Elizabeth, Judith and Mary Lea.[2]

Research Notes

Death

The death date datafield says she died "about 1784". The biography says she died "after 1784". Is there a 1784 record listing her as alive? She is not listed in the 1783 Tithables. Did she instead die before or in 1783? Spratlin-29 17:34, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

John Knight's Origin

The biography previously contained unsourced parents for John Knight based on family tradition. John Knight is likely conflated in this statement, and the parents are unlikely given recent research. See "DNA Information".

"Elizabeth married John KNIGHT of Lunenburg Co., VA, son of John (of Lunenburg County, VA) KNIGHT and Elizabeth JORDAN, on 1728. John was born 1705 in Henrico County, VA. He died 1771/1772 in Lunenburg County, VA."

Woodson-2558 and Woodson-146 appear to represent the same person because: they share similar vital statistics, the same parents, the same siblings and the same spouse, John Knight, sr.

Lewis-249 seems to be correct, married to Woodson-7...?

Have not Merged as, although Death date recorded in Sources matches Woodson-759 date of 1784... the mother is listed in sources as Sarah Lewis, not Rachel Watkins and this record also shows 1711 birth date in listed sources.

Woodson-759 and Woodson-146 appear to represent the same person because: these seem a better match than the duplicates for her brother(s) Jonathan, even though the death dates are off.
