Biography

Catrin/Katherine was the daughter, and co-heiress, of Humphey Wynne and Mawd Pryce. She was probably born in Duffryn, Meifod, Montgomeryshire, Wales where her father lived. Her birth date is uncertain, but her son Charles Lloyd was born in 1613,[1][2] so a guesstimate of about 1590 may not be unreasonable.

Catrin married John Lloyd of Dolobran, Montgomeryshire.[1][2][3] He was her second cousin.[4] Their marriage date is not known - the guesstimate of about 1610 is based on the birth year of their son Charles. They had at least one child:

Catrin may have been the mother of the three daughters named in the surviving portion of her husband's will - Dorothy, Margaret and Elizabeth - though one or more of them may have been children of John's second wife.[5]

Catrin was probably the Katherine Lloyd, wife of John, buried at Meifod, Montgomeryshire on 15 April 1625.[6]

Catrin's husband remarried: in his will, his wife is named as Elizabeth.[4][5] He died in 1636.[1][2]

Research Notes

Children

David Lloyd has previously been shown on WikiTree as the son of Catrin and John Lloyd. This relationship is tentatively shown, with no sourcing and with warnings about the uncertainty of relationships for earlier Lloyds, in a website which includes a page for descendants of David Lloyd and Eva Goch.[7] There is no reliable source for it.

The Pease genealogy site has a lengthy tree for the Lloyd family which suggests that Catrin and John Lloyd had a son called Samuel, with no source, but does not name a son called David.[8]

Merion in the Welsh Tract (1896)[9] and Genealogical Notes relating to the Families of Lloyd... (1898)[3] mention only one son, Charles. So does the Dictionary of Welsh Biography.[4]

Catrin's husband's will - which survives in an incomplete state - refers to his son Charles and his daughters Dorothy, Margaret and Elizabeth but does not mention other children.[5]

This profile had been identified as being on a Magna Carta Trail from Gateway Ancestor Thomas Lloyd to several surety barons. I will soon be adding the Magna Carta Project as a co-manager of this profile in order to track the trail. Thanks.
