Jesse Allen Adams Jr (1791-1866) was born in the Lewis Fork area of Wilkes County, North Carolina. In 1794, when he was about 3, his father, Jesse Allen Sr., moved the family about 200 miles east-southeast, to Johnston County, North Carolina.
It was in Johnston County that Jesse Allen Jr., who was known as "Allen", grew up and at age 19, married Elizabeth Bryant who was 18. Allen and Elizabeth remained in Johnston County until about 1825, during which time four of their seven children were born.
In 1825, or shortly thereafter, he moved his family to the frontier country of south Georgia, where he settled in time to see the new County of Thomas formed. It was here his last three children were born and where his wife, Elizabeth, died in 1832.
In 1837, he moved his family to the new frontier of west Georgia settling in the vicinity of Morris in Randolph County. Over time, county lines were redrawn and present-day Morris is in Quitman County. Here his children grew up and four of them married and started their own families.
The year of 1849 found Jesse Allen Adams moving further west to Barbour County, Alabama, bringing his now expanded family group with him. Within sight of the Epworth Church, he and two of his sons built their homes. Here he farmed, saw his family through the hardships of the Civil War and lived out the last 17 years of his life.[1]
Jesse Allen Adams and family appear in the 1850 census for Barbour, Alabama.[2]
