Catherine's birth name was spelled at times "Berend" as well as "Berent" and "Behrent."
Catherine Berend was born in 1808 in Nachtsheim, Mayen, Rhine, Prussia to Stephan Berend and Anna Muller. She married Stephen Schneider on September 21, 1831, in her hometown. They immigrated to Wisconsin in 1845 and bought land in Fond du Lac. They had six children during their marriage.[1] Peter died in 1863, but she lived first with her son Matthias Schneider in 1870 [2] and then son Peter in 1880. [3] She died on February 27, 1889, at the age of 81.
