Biography
Dawn Leonard Tripp has been researching her family history since 1978--actively since 1994. In 1998, she completed an accredited genealogy home-study course through the National Genealogical Society.
As of January 2012, the birth parents of Dawn's great-great-grandfather, Bailey Leonard (1829-1899, Orange County, Indiana) are unproven. Data do not support family tradition, but the preponderance of evidence points to one or both being grandchildren of William Leonard (1743-1826?) and Jemima (Bailey) Leonard (1743-1800?). William and Jemima were born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, and apparently died in Grayson County, Virginia. Two of their sons - Thomas and James - moved from Guilford County, North Carolina, to Orange County, Indiana, before 1830. (Thomas made the move about 10 years before James.)
The search for Bailey Leonard's line continues, now using Y-DNA data. In addition, Dawn is collecting info on kinsmen named Obediah Leonard.
