James Roosevelt, Jr. was the eldest son of James Roosevelt, Sr. and his first wife, Rebecca Howland. Upon his father remarrying, he became the half-brother to the thirty-second President of the United States Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR). Like many in his family James Jr. was active in politics serving as Secretary of the United States Legation at Vienna and as Secretary of the Embassy at London.
