Biography

George Abbott was born in Andover, Massachusetts, on 28 January 1658/9, a son of George and Sarah Abbott.[1]

He was a farmer and a shoemaker in Andover, where he received land from his father, both during his father's lifetime and from the estate.[1]

George Abbott was married to his first wife, Elizabeth Ballard, at Andover, Massachusetts, on 13 September 1689.[2] Elizabeth Abbott, recorded as the wife of George, Jr., died in Andover in 1706.[3]

George Abbott of Andover, Massachusetts, was married to Hannah Easty of Topsfield, Massachusetts, on 21 July 1707. Topsfield records indicate the marriage was at Andover, but one set of Andover records indicates that the marriage was at Topsfield, while another set implies it was at Andover.[4][5]

George Abbott died 23 November 1724.[6]

He made his will 1 October 1724 and it was proved 7 December 1724.[7]

In his will written 1 October 1724 (probate 7 December 1724), George Abbott made provision for the support of his loving wife Hannah to be provided by the estate. Son George receives £5, Jacob £15, and Moses £5, these amounts to be paid by Obed and which will constitute their whole portions with what they have already received. Son Obed receives 10 acres of upland and a piece of meadow. Son Peter receives £10 to be paid by the executor which is in addition to what he had received. Daughters Sarah and Hannah each receive £25 to paid to them upon marriage or when they are of age, and they also receive household items. Sarah and Hannah also have liberty of the house while they are unmarried. Granddaughter Elizabeth Foster, daughter of Elizabeth who is deceased, receives 20 shillings. The remainder of the estate real and personal is given to son Uriah who is also named executor.
