Biography

Frederick was born in 1887. Frederick Abbott ...

Dungog Chronicle : Durham and Gloucester Advertiser (NSW), Tue 17 Dec 1946, p.2

MR. F. C. ABBOTT.

Death occurred at his residence, Violet Hill, Dungog, on Monday, of Mr. Frederick Cecil ('Dick') Abbott, well-known auctioneer and grazier. Deceased became ill some six weeks ago and gradually his health failed. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Abbott, his father being an auctioneer, and son of one of the earliest residents of Dungog.

Deceased, who was 59 years of age, is survived by his widow, three sons, Richard, Joseph and John, and one daughter, Dell (Mrs. Brett). Mr. Herb Abbott, Gloucester, is a brother and Miss Mabel Abbott, Sydney, a sister.

The late Mr. Abbott was educated at Scot's College, Sydney, and spent his life in Dungog. He was an alderman for many terms, a member of the A. and H. Association, and an active supporter of racing clubs over the years. He was a prominent footballer and one of the district's best cricketers, bowling, batting and slip fielding. There is scarcely one sport in which he was not proficient during his life.

As an auctioneer, he was an expert salesman. He was a great judge of values and was a quick seller. His great knowledge of this and other districts was evidenced by his appointment as valuer for various shires on many occasions.

A wide circle of friends and relatives will mourn his death. Deepest sympathy is extended to Mrs. Abbott and family in their sad loss.

The funeral will leave his late residence at 11 a.m. this Tuesday morning, for Dungog Church of England portion of Dungog cemetery.[1]
