Alva(h) Abbott was born 27 May 1816 Bethlehem, Clark, Indiana, United States, the son of William Abbot and Mary Jane Thompson. Clark, Indiana is just across the Ohio River from Trimble Co., Kentucky, home to his future spouse, Piercy Ann Law. They married there 25 Aug 1840 when she was only 14 1/2 years old. They had 5 children: Mary Jane (1842-?); William A. (1844-?); Emirilla (1847-?); Robert H. (29 Nov. 1849-8 Feb. 1899); and Evan Garrett (1853-1937). Piercy died in 1879 (or 1873) and is buried at Smith Mills Cemetery, Smith Mills, Henderson, Kentucky, the same cemetery Alva was buried. But interestingly, Alva doesn't share her stone, and there wasn't one shown on his FindaGrave memorial. Her headstone has "Piercy Ann" dau. of A. and Mary Law, and then Abbott below their names. I can only speculate about the reasons for this-the stone perhaps added many years after her death, Alva's dying either 12 (or 6) years later, money being short or just parents who never warmed to this son-in-law. But unless I locate his grave and find who paid for the headstone on hers, it won't be resolved.
