Research notes

If anyone reading this profile is a descendant of Richard, please get in touch with SJ Baty. The Abbott family is looking for DNA for the last son of Richard Abbott of Culpepper. The other 3 brothers, John, James, & Thomas have linked via YDNA to Richard Sr.:

"We know that Richard Abbott of Jefferson, KY had a wife Elisabeth and two sons John and Gabrial and two unnmed daughters.

" ... [from] Wanda Groseclose's book which states that Richard wed Elisabeth in 1785 and on July 7, 1789 in Jefferson County, Kentucky, Richard was made the guardian of J. Feaver and Nancy Feaver, who were the likely siblings of his wife Elisabeth.

"Over the years DNA evidence of family connections have been provided by numerous persons...

"The DNA of James Hiel Abbott was established through DNA evidence from the descendats of three of James Hiel's sons. DNA from Harvey Abbott, a descendant of John Abbott provided evidence that John and James were related and another test from a descendant of Thomas Abbott proved that his line was also related to brothers John and James. All that is needed now is a test for a descendant of Richard."

DNA Connections

However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Richard:
